3D Character Artist (Contractor)

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled 3D Character Artist to join our team and help bring unique, stylized characters to life within the Roblox platform. You’ll be responsible for creating PBR-stylized characters, clothing, and accessories while working within the technical and aesthetic constraints of the Roblox R6 rig.

This role requires a balance of artistic creativity and technical precision. You’ll collaborate closely with our art direction and animation teams to deliver optimized, performant characters that align with our studio’s vision and meet Roblox’s platform standards.

Responsibilities

  • Model, sculpt, and texture stylized 3D characters, clothing, and accessories with PBR workflows.
  • Adapt designs to work seamlessly with Roblox R6 character proportions and platform limitations.
  • Ensure all assets are optimized for performance, including proper topology, UV mapping, and polycount.
  • Work closely with rigging and animation teams to guarantee clean deformation and weight transfer.
  • Collaborate with the Art Director to maintain consistency with the game’s style guide and visual identity.
  • Prepare and export assets for implementation into Roblox Studio (FBX, textures, etc.).
  • Iterate on feedback quickly while maintaining quality standards.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a 3D Character Artist (portfolio required).
  • Strong proficiency in Blender, Maya, or equivalent 3D software, plus Substance Painter or similar for texturing.
  • Understanding of PBR texturing workflows and how they apply to stylized art.
  • Knowledge of Roblox R6 rig proportions and how to build assets that fit within those constraints.
  • Solid grasp of topology, UV unwrapping, and texture optimization for real-time engines.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort with iterative feedback.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with stylized character pipelines for other games or platforms.
  • Familiarity with Roblox Studio and its import/export workflows.
  • Basic knowledge of rigging and skinning.
  • Passion for games, animation, and Roblox’s creative ecosystem.

Compensation:

$20-25 an hour

The listed salary range is an estimate. Actual offers may fall within or exceed this range, depending on factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs, and market demand.
